There are medications to treat premature ejaculation. These include:
- Pills that you can take orally
- Creams and sprays to numb the penis and spray (if available)
- Penile injection therapy
Your doctor can advise you if the medicine would be effective for you and monitor your progress while you are on treatment.
You may have seen or heard about nasal spray for the treatment of premature ejaculation. This is offered by a limited number of clinics. As premature ejaculation varies between men and even varies for the same man with different partners or situations, it is important to discuss your specific concerns and requirements with your regular doctor. Your doctor will conduct a health check, and discuss your unique concerns regarding premature ejaculation and its impact on your current sexual relationship.
Drugs from sources other than a doctor or a licensed pharmacy should be viewed with suspicion. They may be an imitation product and present a significant risk to your health. Some imitation products may be branded closely to the original brand name or may be named suspiciously (e.g. penis pills, sex pills, PE pills). The World Health Organization defines counterfeit drugs as drugs that have ‘been deliberately and fraudulently mislabelled with respect to identity and/or source’. Substances used to adulterate medicines can vary from chalk to antibiotics to highly lethal substance that cause mortality. These cheaper substances are used to mimic genuine drugs.
